New Orleans, Louisiana
March 21 - 25, 2012

The 2012 IA Summit will be held at the downtown Hyatt Regency hotel in the biggest o’ easies, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

Well, how do I get there?

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (airport code: MSY) is served by all major US airlines and Air Canada. Unfortunately, folks flying in from beyond North America do not have the option of a direct flight into NOLA.

To the hotel!

The Hyatt Regency New Orleans, located at 601 Loyola Avenue (full contact info below) in downtown New Orleans, is accessible from the airport via taxi. As of December 2011, cab fare is $33/person for 1-2 people and $14 each for additional passengers. Credit cards accepted. Additionally, a shuttle is also available to/from the airport for $38/person round-trip or $20/person one-way.

A block of rooms has been reserved for IA Summit 2012 attendees- get your accommodations settled right here while the gettin’s good. Hope to see you there!

What to do, what to do?

The Big Easy needs little introduction, but we figured a nudge in the right direction never hurts, so have at it:

Close to Hotel (Walk)

Restaurants and bars in the area around the Hyatt. You’ll find more options a few blocks away, but here are some options if you want to stay close to the conference.

Bar

  • Vitascope (in Hyatt)

Warehouse District & CBD (Walk, about 1 mile)

The Hyatt is located on Loyola Ave. near Poydras St., Poydras runs right down the middle of downtown New Orleans, aka the CBD. South of Poydras is the Warehouse District, home to many of the great restaurants in New Orleans, including Emeril’s and the if-it-isn’t-famous-it-really-should-be Cochon.

Bars & Music

Coffee

French Quarter (Walk, about 1.5 miles)

Take a right on Poydras St., and walk down to St. Charles. Take a left on St. Charles, then walk about 5 blocks to Canal St. Once you cross Canal St., St. Charles will turn into Royal St. and you’ll be in the French Quarter.

A Note on Safety: We don’t recommend walking to the French Quarter via N. Rampart St. In particular, the Loyola/Canal/N. Rampart intersection is a high crime area and should definitely be avoided late at night.

Bars & Music

Frenchmen Street (Taxi, about 2 miles)

Located just north of the French Quarter in the Marigny, Frenchmen St. has a great selection of clubs and bars with live music nightly.

Need to conduct a private conference? Launchpad, a co-working space, is offering free space for a limited time to guests of IA Summit. Longer time limits might have a small fee, but they are friendly and easy to negotiate with you. They have private rooms and Internet available.

New Orleans Lingo

  • Dressed: lettuce, tomatoes, mayonnaise, pickles, etc.
  • Where Y'at?: How are you? or Where are you?
  • Lagniappe: and a little extra
  • I bet you know where you got them shoes at: always answer "on my feet"
  • Neutral Ground: median
  • Po'Boy: sandwich on French bread (best if sloppy)
  • Who Dat?: Who dat say dye gonna beat dem Saints?
  • Laissez les bon temps rouler: Let the good times roll.

Don’t be surprised if you receive directions that don’t consist of N, S, E, W. New Orleans is a mixed up town where the Westbank is actually South and East. Directions are usually given by which neighborhood it’s in and street name. New Orleans is a small city and easy to get around so don’t get nervous if feeling lost.
